How NearbyPrices works
NearbyPrices shows you what services actually cost — not estimates dressed up as facts. Here is exactly how the data on every page is collected, verified, and displayed.
01
Businesses submit their prices
Trade businesses and service providers list their price ranges directly on NearbyPrices. Each submission is timestamped and attributed to a verified business.
02
Consumers report what they paid
Homeowners and consumers submit the actual price they paid for a job including a brief description, their postcode prefix, and a username. Email addresses are stored as a one-way hash only — never in readable form.
03
We display both, clearly labelled
Every page shows business-submitted price ranges and consumer-reported prices separately so you can see what businesses charge and what people actually pay.
04
Estimated ranges fill the gaps
Where no real submissions exist yet we display indicative price ranges sourced from reputable third parties like Which?, Checkatrade, and ONS. These are always clearly labelled as estimates and are never used in structured data.
05
Data confidence grows over time
As more submissions come in for a category and location, the data confidence indicator rises from Low to Medium to High. You can always see exactly how many submissions back up the figures on screen.
